was first issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1988 following the success of the Gold Maple Leaf program.

Struck in one troy ounce of .9999 fine silver, as opposed to the .999 standard of other government mints, the Silver Maple Leaf has one of the highest levels of purity of any silver coin produced in the world today.

The coin’s obverse was designed by acclaimed Canadian portrait artist Susan Blunt and depicts the crownless profile of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin’s issue and denomination are inscribed below the Queens portrait. At 5 Canadian Dollars, the Silver Maple Leaf is the world’s highest denomination one once silver coin.

The reverse features Canada’s national symbol, the maple leaf. Designed by renowned sculptor Dora de Pedery-Hunt, it exhibits such exquisite detail that each vein can be clearly seen on the leaf’s surface.
